Slow growing and spreading when young, forming a large upright tree with downward arching branches when mature. Soft, curved, heavy-textured deep blue needles wrap the stems. Many cones. Grow in moist fertile soil.

Fully hardy: the plant can tolerate temperatures down to about -15C or 5F.
