This species is different from other maples. It will produce compound leaves of 3-5 leaflets, where other maples have simple leaves. The variegation which in spring is a clear pink and white, reverts to green and white later in the summer; the branches are a grey green. They are fully to frost hardy and will require sun or semi-shade in fertile, well-drained soil.
